About Jason Shannon: After three years of quietly writing and recording on his own, Shannon gathered a group of songs in January 2008 and entered Wild Sound Studio in Minneapolis to record Jason Shannon. Tracked and mixed over a stretch of six months by Shannon and Matthew Zimmerman, the album opens with “Mister Miracle Mile,” an infectious, gypsy-tinged tale of greed-gone-wild, complete with fiery horns. The 12-track disc “provides ample amounts of trouble and heartache, powerful vocals and spirituality dressed with a Southern gothic flair… [and] throws in reggae beats and pop flavors, to boot,” according to Beth Walker of Performing Songwriter, who included the record in their DIY Top 12 for March/April 2009. Walker also added that, “overall, the diversity of the tracks, paired with Shannon’s heartfelt tenor, makes for an intriguing and worthwhile listen.” |
